Amid reports of truck queues snaking back 72km from the Kasumbalesa border post between Zambia and the DRC, there appears to be no end in sight for frustrated hauliers (FTW Online, April 9).
According to Mike Fitzmaurice of the Federation of East and Southern Africa Road Transport Associations (Fesarta), there are now approximately 700 petrol and acid tankers in the queue and about 500 breakbulk trucks.
He said the DRC was only allowing breakbulk and abnormals through “so this is now an explosive disaster waiting to happen”.
FTW Online is keeping close to the story and will provide updates as we receive them.
