There have been several reports of service delivery protests around Johannesburg since Wednesday.
Roads reportedly affected by protests included the R554 and Verena Road and the N4 offramp at Geduld Bridge, while the area near Ferrobank was also closed, according to reports on social media traffic groups.
There was also an unconfirmed report of a tyre spiking incident on the N12 at the Meridale bridge.
In City Deep the M31 Heidelberg Road was also reportedly affected early on Thursday morning where protestors were burning tyres and blocking the road.
“Heidelberg Road is closed north of Impex Avenue. Use alternative routes,” a message circulating on social media warned.
Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations chief executive, Mike Fitzmaurice, said the closures in the region were apparently due to service delivery protests.
