Avanced solutions are required to deal with the level of sophistication shown by criminals targeting the freight sector.
According to Dion Landman, general manager at Secure One, criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, putting freight at significant risk.
“These criminals are highly organised and often know the contents of a container long before it’s even unpacked.
"They learn from the port of loading what goods are inside and frequently sell them before a hijacking occurs," he said, indicating the importance of mitigating the risk by having the right security in place from the get-go.
A common misconception, according to Landman, is that the owners of the cargo believe they are covered by insurance and that the transporter has everything under control.
"It is also not just the loss of the goods or the equipment that has an impact.
"By the time the goods go missing, the brand suffers from being discounted on the market, and replacing stock on shelves takes time. These are all factors that need to be considered when moving cargo.”
