The air cargo sector was a lifeline for most airlines during the Covid-19 pandemic.According to Aaron Munetsi, CEO of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa, with the opening up of borders and travel restrictions being lifted, there is a heightened focus on passenger operations, as expected. This, however, will not diminish the role and importance of airfreight. “Cargo performance is still commendable in view of the demand for goods and services. The replenishment process keeps cargo demand at a high level. We predict that cargo will remain a significant contributor to the steady growth of the aviation sector in our region,” he told Freight News.
