The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has taken automation to the next level with the creation of an e-payment platform where clients can transact via mobile money, Visa and MasterCard.
The system was being piloted on a select number of clients and would be rolled out soon, said general manager in charge of marketing and corporate affairs, Esther Gyebi-Donkor.
Quoted on the Eye on Port newscast, she said the port was also creating a mobile app where clients could validate invoices as well as calculate port charges.
“We have made significant gains from automation in the ports, such as paperless port clearance processes and implementation of the Integrated Customs Management System (Icums). This has not only streamlined the activities of statutory agencies operating in the clearance chain, but has impacted the cost of doing business at the ports considerably.
“Falsification of documents has also reduced through system integration with other stakeholders, resulting in an increase in revenue.”
