The Gauteng provincial government’s law enforcement agencies have intensified action against traffic infringements such as overloading of vehicles and bribery and corruption, according to the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane.
She appealed to law enforcement officers in the province to arrest any officers who solicited bribes in the province “without any hesitation” following the the arrest of a Gauteng traffic police officer who was caught soliciting a bribe to allow a driver to escape an overloading fine in Pretoria last week.
“I will never allow officers to dent the image of policing when they should be discharging their duties with loyalty and dedication,” she said.
Nkosi-Malobane cautioned that offering a law enforcement officer a bribe could also lead to a civilian’s arrest.
