The Gauteng provincial government is set to spend a whopping R30.6 billion of its total R73.5 billion budget on infrastructure.
According to MEC for finance, Mandla Nkomfe, this will allow the province to grow economically and establish itself as an economic hub not only in South Africa but Africa.
He said infrastructure projects would be accelerated while attention would also be given to the maintenance of current infrastructure.
“The relationship between the economy and infrastructure is critical to promoting inclusive growth and sustainable development,” said Nkomfe. “As such, the importance of infrastructure investment as a catalyst for economic growth is even more compelling. The development of Gauteng as a global city region is contingent upon infrastructure development.”
