Extension work to enlarge Ecuador’s Terminal Portuario Guayaquil (TPG) has begun.
The work on the port, operated by Chilean multinational company SAAM, will increase the terminal’s dock size from 360 to 480 metres in length and increase transfer capacity by 25%.
The 120-metre extension is scheduled to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2017.
The terminal is also expanding its support areas and has purchased two new Super Post Panamax cranes.
Operated by SAAM since July 2006, Terminal Portuario Guayaquil handled over 2.27 million tons of cargo during 2015.
