EMIRATES WILL add three flights a week from Dubai to Johannesburg and return, starting on December 1. This will increase its service from seven flights a week to 10, using Airbus 8330s.
The new flights will
leave Dubai International Airport at 09:55 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, returning next day. The joint passenger/ cargo service comes at a time when growing volumes of South African produce are moving to the Middle and Far East, with further growth expected as the summer perishable season begins this month.
The flights will also provide a valuable link for South African goods destined for the growing markets in Iran. Emirates will increase its daily service between Dubai and Teheran from seven to 10 a week from January 1, 2002.
The airline has also announced the largest single shipment booked through its advanced cargo management system, SkyChain. This comprised 816 pieces, weighing a total of 29,5 tons, and was flown from Dubai to Islamabad last month on a charter flight using one of the airlineÕs Boeing 777-200 passenger aircraft on a cargo-only
mission.
