Egypt is currently constructing its second rail line for an electric train. The new railway will consist of three lines – a passenger high-speed line, a normal-speed line and a freight line. The railway will cover 1 400km from Giza’s 6th of October City and Abu Simbel.
Nine stations will be created for the high-speed line serving the capitals of Upper Egyptian governorates, and 27 stations will be created for the normal-speed line serving smaller towns. The trains will operate at 250kph and 160kph respectively. The freight line will travel at 120kph.
There will be 20 trains on the high-speed line, 48 on the normal-speed line, and 20 on the freight line. The third and second lines will connect through Qena, as it will reach Hurghada and Safaga on the Red Sea.
The stations will be located in Fayoum, Beni Suef, Ayat, Fashan, Adwa, Beni Mazar, Samalout, Menya, Abou Qarqas, Malawi, Deirout, Qouseya, Manfalout, Asyut, Abou Tig, Ghanayem, Tahta, Sohag, Gerga, Abidous, Farshout, Nagaa Hamady, Deshna, Qena, Qous, Luxor, Armant, Sobaeya, Edfu, Kalabsha, Draw, New Aswan, Aswan Airport, Medicom, Toshki, and Abu Simbel.
