South Africa’s Department of Transport (DoT) has issued a tender for the development of a road asset management central data repository to improve its capacity to manage its assets and determine where departmental funds can be allocated in the most sustainable way.
The tender invitation appeared in the National Treasury’s eTender Portal this week and was one of over 800 tenders issued by various national government entities.
The tender documentation has the department noting that effective management of road assets requires a complete inventory of assets to monitor, maintain and improve if needs be.
The condition of each asset will be assessed when the inventory is completed, the DoT said.
It also indicated that road authorities are becoming more financially strained, which means they must find smart approaches to manage assets that are vital for the functioning of the economy and socio-economic objectives.
The offering of the eventual successful applicant must, therefore, enable the department to allocate suitable funds or seek alternative funding on a priority basis.
The deliverables include the development of a road prioritisation model investigating “political imperatives” on a socio-economic level, which can be used in conjunction with return on investment. – Source: ITWeb.
