Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, is set to launch the refurbished Babelegi Industrial Park in Hammanskraal tomorrow (Tuesday) as part of his department’s Revitalisation of Industrial Parks Programme.
According to Davies, the main objective of the programme is to accelerate economic development in the lagging regions by attracting business investments to locate in these areas. It is also aimed at supporting job creation in manufacturing and related sectors.
“The dti has forged strategic partnerships for the implementation of the programme on a national scale, working with the provinces, their agencies as well as municipalities.
“In the case of Babelegi, the department is working with the North West Development Corporation, who are also the owners of the park. The City of Tshwane has also played a strategic role in ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme,” Davies said.
The Babelegi Industrial Park - upgraded to the tune of R42 million – has approximately 261 developed units which are available for leasing, while 188 of the units are occupied by firms operating in textiles, engineering, construction, light manufacturing and warehousing as well as distribution houses.
