Malcolm Drysdale, managing director of M&S Shipping with technical director David Martin and the 10 specially built IMO 1 tank containers delivered to Welfit Oddy's Port Elizabeth manufacturing facility recently.
We had these tanks custom designed and built for the carriage of pure sulphuric acid, says Drysdale. They will support the growing exports of mining technology, systems and products being shipped all over Africa from South Africa.
The tanks are top discharge, as required under the IMDG code, and have 13 900 litre capacity due to the very high specific gravity of pure sulphuric acid.
We've been saying for a long time that we believe we can facilitate exports and create new markets for South African chemicals by being innovative with packaging, says Drysdale. We're just continuing to pursue that goal.
