We need to get our South African port and transport infrastructure to levels where we can say we can offer the import and export industry competitive and efficient supply chain tools to grow their businesses. We have seen a rapid decline in the South African rail system which, in some areas, is now non-existent.The vast increase in trucks on the road has catapulted the logistics and port costs to levels that are unheard of in other parts of the world. It also harms our environment, which can have disastrous consequences.I wish our government and industry would put their heads together and come up with a solution that will make South Africa a first-world trading partner globally.
