South African freight consolidator Dynalog is expanding its operations with the launch of a new division called Dynapet, which specialises in the transportation of live animals. The move comes in response to the growing demand for such services in recent years.Dynapet will cater to the needs of freight forwarders moving animals in and out of the country, as well as within South Africa. The division is highly specialised and will be able to handle the movement of both domestic and wild animals, according to owner and MD Kobus Rossouw. There’s been a significant increase in live animal travel in recent years thanks to growing emigration from South Africa. Rossouw said the new division would offer competitive pricing and employed specialised staff to meet the needs of this growing market.Speaking to Freight News, Rossouw added that it was critical to maintain relationships with clients and service providers in the consolidation industry. He also acknowledged that the market was constantly evolving and that Dynalog must remain f lexible and diverse in its services to stay ahead of the competition.Rossouw said the freight consolidations industry was currently facing numerous challenges. The global economic downturn had resulted in fewer and smaller shipments, putting pressure on consolidators. Additionally, the exchange rate remained problematic, particularly for imports, making it difficult for both the company and its customers to plan.He also noted that the airfreight sector was experiencing a lot of inconsistency, with constant changes in rates that can make it difficult for consolidators to sell to the market. “Moreover, there is a lack of operational knowledge in the sector, which is leading to air special load shipments being turned away due to the airline or booking staff 's lack of expertise.”To overcome these challenges, Rossouw emphasised the need for consolidators to continuously search for more efficient and cost-effective delivery methods. He also stressed the importance of building strong relationships with airlines and shipping lines to ensure smoother operations and better planning. In addition, he highlighted the need for increased training and knowledge-sharing within the airfreight sector to ensure that all parties involved had a better understanding of the industry's complex requirements.Despite the challenges facing the industry, Rossouw remains optimistic about the future, stating that consolidators must remain f lexible and adaptable to succeed in the ever-changing market. “I am optimistic about the future of Dynalog and the wider freight consolidations market. With our new division, we are poised to meet the growing demand for live animal transportation services, both in South Africa and beyond. Going forward, our goal will be to further diversify our business, meeting the needs of our clients.”
