Truckers heading towards the Trans-Kalahari highway through Botswana have been warned that service delivery protests have caused the closure of South Africa’s Skilpadshek Border Post on the N4.
The Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta) reports that “law enforcement officers are currently on the ground monitoring the situation.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to the border and surrounding areas.”
Reports of the border’s closure coincide with earlier reports received this morning of a taxi blockade north of Musina, forcing traffic going north into Zimbabwe to a standstill (please see report elsewhere).
However, the protest action at Skilpadshek appears to be protected strike action, whereas the labour disruption at Beitbridge isn’t.
Fesarta requested that all users of the N4 heading towards Skilpadshek cooperate with law enforcement as they monitor the protest action.
