Companies from China are showing increased willingness to fund logistics infrastructure and development projects following a high-level Mozambican government and trade visit to Beijing late last week.
Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita, reported that this would be conditional on these projects falling under government’s five-year development plan.
Two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) were signed in Beijing last week which will see Chinese companies investing in a variety of infrastructure projects to “ensure an effective integration of Mozambique into the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative”, said Mesquita.
These projects include dams, railway lines, telecommunications, ports and roads.
