DP World announced yesterday (Wednesday) that it had completed its “Phase 2 North” expansion project at the Prince Rupert Fairview Container Terminal in Canada.
The project was designed to increase the container throughput of the terminal which had an original capacity of 750 000 TEUs.
The terminal now features three new Super-post Panamax cranes, 6 000 feet of on-dock rail, six rubber-tyred gantry cranes and a second berth. It can now handle approximately 1.35 million TEUs annually.
“The upgrades allow Prince Rupert to efficiently handle the largest vessels in the world with a carrying capacity of 20 000 plus TEUs,” said DP World spokesperson, Sanaa Maadad.
