A Bangladeshi-owned bulker went off course due to GPS jamming and ran aground near the Russian port of Ust-Luga in late December, where it remained on the rocks for weeks.
Local authorities initially did not assist the vessel, despite its repeated requests for help.
The previously unreported incident involved the Meghna Princess, which is operated by the country's largest shipowner, Meghna Group, according to The Business Standard, which sourced information from the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association (BMMOA).
The vessel hit an underwater rock near Ust-Luga, incurring damage to its hull and propeller, and several of her tanks were flooded.
Shewas carrying a cargo of fertiliser that had been loaded at St Petersburg and was en route to Ust-Luga to load a further 25 000 tonnes of cargo when the disaster struck.
The BMMOA said the crew had appealed to Russian port authorities for assistance, but they had received no response for an extended period. The crew began to run short of food and drank melted snow to survive.
The International Transport Workers' Federation intervened, and a Russian salvage tug was sent to the vessel, which was refloated and moving at a slow bell on Thursday, according to AIS data.
