The Department of Labour says it will conduct a formal inquiry into the M1 Grayston/Sandton bridge collapse, which left two people dead.
The incident took place on 14 October. Over 20 people were injured when the support structure of the pedestrian bridge under construction collapsed.
Chief inspector at the Department of Labour, Tibor Szana, said that the formal investigation would take up to six months to complete.
Addressing the media during the release of a preliminary report on the incident in Pretoria, Szana said the department was still gathering evidence on the incident.
“We don’t work with rumours, we work with facts,” he said.
He said the construction of the bridge had been stopped to allow investigations to continue smoothly.
