Minister in the Presidency for electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is expected to host and participate in various energy-related sessions as part of strengthening the electricity sector’s cooperation within Brics member states.
The 15th Summit of Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa (Brics) gets under way in Johannesburg today, 22 August.
Ramokgopa will use the opportunity to host engagements in the interests of the development of new energy generation, forging support for a common position in advancing Africa’s energy security based on a ‘Just Transition’ and for technical support to transition access to modern energy sources, while advancing a call for a common Brics position on the transformation of global energy.
According to the presidency, amongst the engagements for electricity during the Brics summit are a bilateral meeting with China State Grid, a meeting with TBEA Energy India, and China National Electricity Engineering Company.
He will participate in the Brics Business Forum on Tuesday and in the Brics Cultural Show on Wednesday. – SAnews.gov.za
