Movement at the Beitbridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe has been very slow over the past few days, Mike Fitzmaurice of the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations has said.
According to Fitzmaurice, transporters have reported slow movement since Saturday (June 26).
“Transporters who arrived at the border on Saturday were only able to cross yesterday, making the wait at the border approximately 24 hours,” said Fitzmaurice.
He also confirmed that there had been an LPG tanker problem in the vicinity of Makhado yesterday. “The road was blocked because a gas tanker was leaking. Another tanker arrived and the cargo was moved successfully. The road has been reopened this morning,” he said.
The road closure yesterday was not the reason for the delays at the border. Movement on both sides has just been extremely slow.
