Transporters can breathe a sigh of relief, for now, with news just in that congestion at South Africa’s Lebombo border into Mozambique has subsided.
According to Mike Fitzmaurice, chief executive of the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta), the congestion has cleared at the border with trucks flowing as usual on the N4 towards the port.
Fitzmaurice told Freight News that volumes at the border had increased, while major delays with customs systems on the South African side had exacerbated the situation.
He confirmed this morning that for now, the congestion had eased and that operations were running as normal.
