A REGULAR roadfreight service between
Angola and northern Namibia operated
by Angolan-based hauliers could soon
become a reality, according to Florence
Ross, MD of Pomona-based AMR Logistics.
This is good news says Ross, as the
bane of all road transporters' lives has
been the poor condition of roads in
southern Angola. That, along with holdups
by brigand groups, makes routine
transport across the border almost
prohibitive.
AMR Logistics currently moves more
than 80 trucks a month from South Africa
in and out of 11 Southern African states,
says Ross.
While Namibia is a strong focus – with
ships’ spares and equipment moving in
and manufactured goods destined for the
Middle E ast moving out – the company’s
Africa network is extensive, including the
likes of the DRC, Zambian Copperbelt,
Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Southern
Angola and Botswana. In Mozambique
new mining developments have created
new business opportunities, says Ross.
“We are offering a consolidation service
to Maputo, Xai Xai, Inhambane, Vilanculos,
Beira and Quelimane, mostly dedicated
to mining and construction equipment.”
A new venture into Africa is likely to
include mining and construction supplies
to Gabon in West Africa, she said.
