Accelerated growth at Air Menzies International (AMI) has identified expansion options for the airfreight forwarder marked by, among other developments, a new warehouse at the Sky Park industrial complex adjacent to OR Tambo International Airport (*)
The facility is more than double AMI’s previous premises of 1 450 square metres.
In addition to the new warehouse, the neutral consolidator has also significantly expanded its cold chain capacity at the airport itself.
On a visit to the warehouse and perishables facility by Freight News, chief executive Jonathan Clark described the new capacity improvements as “a major step forward for AMI” and indicative of the company’s growth trajectory.
“We’ve been expanding through infrastructure projects such as this one and through innovative online platform improvements to provide a better customer-centric experience for our clients.”
Asked what extra market reach could accompany AMI’s physical footprint expansion, Clark said although they were already well established in English-speaking markets (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and SA), the forwarder was focusing on growth out east and in Europe.
“We’re looking at Asia, at markets in Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and of course China. It could include acquisitions with respect to the latter. Although we’re already doing business in Asia, it’s through agents. Ideally we want to see our name in countries like China.”
Additionally, AMI continues to identify trade-lane growth opportunities and expansion options in countries like Belgium, France, Italy and Spain.
