Africa’s airlines are struggling with high taxes and charges, particularly fuel levies, according to the African Airlines’ Association (Afraa).
Afraa says that foreign carriers have subsidised fares, non-interest loans, grants and other major support, resulting in European and Middle Eastern carriers taking the majority of Africa’s air traffic business, reports online Kenyan newspaper the Star
National carrier Kenya Airways is among the hardest hit of the African airlines, as 37% of its fuel costs go to taxes and levies.
