VESSELS MORE than 20 years old carrying cargo into Japanese harbours must have their sailing dates advertised in order to ensure insurance coverage.
This is why Metall Und Rohstoff's two sailings from Richards Bay and Durban this month and in August have appeared in an advertisement in FTW.
This isn't a regular liner service or anything new in the way of scheduling, says Chris Christophersen of Polaris Shipping who act as agents for the vessels.
It has merely been done to accommodate the regulation which allows for clients to have extension on insurance in this respect. Similar sailings will be advertised from time to time.
The Ibn Khallikan left Durban last week (July 19) for the Far East. The Ahmed Al Fateh is scheduled to sail from Richards Bay on August 25 and from Durban four days later for the same destinations.
