Despite the announcement by South Africa and Mozambique of extended operational hours at the Lebombo and Ressano Garcia border posts with immediate effect, officials at the border posts have advised anyone crossing between the two countries to expect delays due to the high volume of travellers expected.
The Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative (MCLI) has advised all stakeholders to take note of some important procedures.
“Travellers to Mozambique are required by law to carry a ZA sticker, reflective vest and two red emergency triangles,” it said in a communiqué. “No animals or pets whatsoever are permitted to be carried across the border and transport operators from South Africa who are moving across the border are required to have permits issued by the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (CBRTA).”
