Italian group ENI has found another natural gas reserve in the Rovuma sedimentary basin, thus increasing the reserves found in the area under concession by ENI East Africa Moçambique to 40-trillion cubic feet, Mozambique’s National Oil Institute said in Maputo, according to macauhub.com report.
According to the Institute’s statement, cited by daily newspaper Notícias, the new find, which followed drilling the well known as Mamba Norte Leste-1, made it possible to add a further 10-trillion cubic feet of natural gas to the reserves that had already been found.
This year ENI East África Moçambique plans to drill four more wells to assess the additional potential of the Mamba Complex in neighbouring areas.
The concession holders of Area 4 of the Rovuma basin, the production contract for which was signed in 2006, are ENI East Africa – Moçambique, which is the operator and has a 70% stake, Mozambican state company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), with 10%, and Portugal’s Galp Energia and South Korea’s Kogas, each with 10%.
In Mozambique, the Rovuma sedimentary basin is currently the most active in terms of hydrocarbon surveys, and Anadarko Moçambique, a subsidiary of US group Anadarko Petroleum, has so far announced recoverable resources estimated at between 15-trillion and 30-trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
If all the finds of both companies – ENI and Anadarko – are added together, in the Rovuma basin alone 70-trillion cubic feet of natural gas has been found in the last two years.
