It was the end of Antarctic voyaging for the 33-year-old SA Agulhas, as she sailed into Cape Town last Saturday.
She is to be replaced by the R1.3-billion new-build, the SA Agulhas II – due to arrive in SA from Europe next month, and take up her Antarctic duties in May.
The old lady will still be used on less distant jobs, until she becomes uninsurable at the age of 35 in 2014.
