South African Airways Cargo continues its strategic expansion with the relaunch of direct flights between Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This route solidifies SAA Cargo’s commitment to enhancing regional logistics and trade while offering seamless freight solutions in East Africa.
Dar es Salaam (DAR), Africa's largest city by population, is a critical regional economic and logistical hub. With ongoing infrastructural improvements, the city offers SAA Cargo strategic access to expand its services and provide seamless connectivity for businesses across the region. The route also enhances trade relations between South Africa and Tanzania, which already boast a robust exchange of agricultural products, precious metals, chemicals, and machinery.
SAA Cargo is represented in Tanzania by Millennium Intertrade Africa Limited, a well-established General Sales Agent (GSA). This partnership plays a pivotal role in expanding cargo services, the GSA brings extensive expertise and local market presence, ensuring that SAA Cargo is well-positioned to serve the Tanzanian market effectively. Frederic Justice Lyaruu, Managing Director of Millennium Intertrade Africa, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “We are excited to join the team and represent South African Airways Cargo in Tanzania. SAA Cargo Manager Kekeletso Mokwena, says, “The relationship with Millennium Intertrade Africa Limited is expected to add to SAA’s established footprint in DAR and other key cities. DAR is the first route in the East Africa region to be part of SAA’s growing network.”
The daily service is operated by an SAA Airbus 320, departing Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport at 10:00 pm (SAST) and arriving at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam at 2:30 am (EAT). The return flight departs Dar es Salaam at 5:10 am (EAT) and arrives in Johannesburg at 7:55 am (SAST), optimizing schedules for both passenger and cargo needs.
SAA Cargo’s growing regional network also includes increased flight frequencies to other key destinations such as Harare, Lusaka, Lagos, Accra, Kinshasa, and Lubumbashi. The addition of Dar es Salaam represents a significant milestone in strengthening SAA Cargo's presence in East Africa, driving connectivity and logistics innovation across the continent.
