Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to transform industries, and mining is no exception.
According to Quintin Botha, strategic partnership lead at CtrlFleet, AI integration is enhancing safety, efficiency and sustainability in mining operations.
“AI solutions have a wide range of applications in the mining sector, with significant advancements in real-time monitoring of hazardous conditions such as rock movement and leaks,” he said.
This is particularly relevant as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations take centre stage in long-term industry planning.
“More mining companies are exploring ways to advance technology and optimise resources to minimise environmental impact while effectively managing community relations,” Botha told Freight News.
He said safety and maintenance monitoring remain top priorities for the sector.
“Off-mine challenges, such as congestion at southern African seaports and equipment failures, continue to pose risks,” Botha said.
