Fresh fruit exporters will head to the Fruit Logistica Berlin international exhibition next month to strengthen ties with existing markets and to expand their current portfolios.
“The show provides a platform for exporters to meet existing, new and potential clients from all over the world,” says marketing manager of the Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF), Marletta Kellerman.
“South Africa is the biggest exporter of fresh fruit in the southern hemisphere, exporting primarily to countries in the northern hemisphere due to counter-seasonality. The show offers an opportunity to retain markets and export volumes to Europe.”
The FPEF, a voluntary, non-profit organisation with more than 160 members, is part of a group of fresh produce exporters that have received support from the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition to showcase their proudly South African products in the South African National Pavilion at the Fruit Logistica Berlin 2025, from February 5-7.
But while Europe remains South Africa’s biggest export destination, declining consumption has forced the industry to diversify. “We have a strong focus on gaining access to, and developing markets in, the Far East and Asia,” says Kellerman.
Fruit Logistica Berlin covers all sectors of the fresh produce business. It showcases innovations, products and services at every link in the international supply chain. It is regarded as the global fresh produce industry’s most prominent and influential trade event, with a significant number of European and international buyers.
The fair, which usually attracts exhibitors from more than 140 countries and approximately 60 000 visitors, offers good networking opportunities with key decision-makers in every sector of the industry.
