Transworld Cargo has introduced a new airfreight consolidation service, establishing a direct link between Frankfurt and Windhoek. According to business development manager Fritz Kaufmann, while Namibia may not be a major global airfreight hub, it holds strategic potential due to its location, infrastructure and unique market opportunities.“The new service ensures efficient and timely transportation of shipments, with competitive rates tailored to meet our clients’ needs,” Kaufmann told Freight News.The service operates on a weekly schedule, with shipments accepted at the warehouse until 3pm every Thursday. Flights depart Frankfurt on Sundays and arrive in Windhoek on the Monday, enabling deliveries to be dispatched by Tuesday. This streamlined schedule offers clients a seamless logistics experience.Looking ahead, Transworld Cargo plans to extend this service to other international hubs. “We are exploring opportunities to establish similar consolidation services with additional global destinations in the future,” Kaufmann said. “As we examine developments in the airfreight sector, it is clear that the industry will continue to evolve, driven by technological progress, environmental priorities and global trade shifts.”Kaufmann noted that demand for reliable and affordable airfreight consolidation services from Windhoek was expected to grow. However, Namibia’s airfreight sector faces several constraints.“Namibia’s airfreight sector is limited by relatively few direct international f lights and a lack of dedicated freighter services,” Kaufmann explained. “Expanding these connections will be critical to increasing cargo volumes. The country’s small domestic market and reliance on commodity exports also make it vulnerable to global economic f luctuations, which could impact airfreight demand.”High operational costs present another challenge. “Airfreight in Namibia traditionally faces elevated costs due to fuel prices, infrastructure maintenance and limited economies of scale compared to larger hubs in the region,” Kaufmann said. “Additionally, bureaucratic inefficiencies and trade barriers within southern Africa continue to hinder the seamless f low of goods.”Despite these challenges, Transworld Cargo remains committed to addressing these obstacles and leveraging Namibia’s strategic potential to enhance its airfreight services.
