South Africa’s cargo community has lost one of its most respected and revered personalities, Mike Walwyn, head of operations at Nexlog and director at the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff).
Announcing his passing to Freight News on July 16, Saaff CEO Juanita Maree said: “My heart is broken.”
The association itself said it was deeply saddened by his death.
“Mike was a remarkable individual whose contributions to the Western Cape community and logistics industry as chairperson and director, were unparalleled.
“His dedication, expertise, and passion made a significant impact on all who had the privilege of working with him.
“Mike's legacy in the logistics community will be remembered for years to come. He was not only a stalwart in his field but also a mentor, a leader and a friend to many.
“His commitment to excellence set a standard that inspired us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family as they navigate through this profound loss. May you all find comfort in the cherished memories and the lasting influence Mike had on so many,” a Saaff statement said.
Walwyn was one of the most gracious sources to the editorial team at Freight News, always willing to help, inform and ensure that technical coverage of the industry was pin-point accurate.
In this regard he always gave as much of his time as possible, patiently assisting freight journalists in their attempts to come to grips with industry matters.
A full obituary will be published in due course.
