The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported a 9.5% decline in airfreight volumes year-on-year (y-o-y) based on their analysis of January data.
However, it is worth noting that the month-to-month trend improved, with volumes increasing compared to December's data which showed a 10% y-o-y decrease.
In January 2023, the capacity for the airfreight sector was 1.8% lower compared to the same month in the previous year.
On the other hand, the same y-o-y period from 2022 saw a 124% surge in airline travel in Africa, according to IATA.
The association also noted a significant increase in the average passenger load factor, which rose by 13.9 percentage points, indicating that 73.7% of revenue-generating seats were occupied.
It is worth highlighting that this is the lowest load factor among all regions worldwide.
