The upswing in vehicles imports was continuing at the Port of Walvis Bay following a 321 vehicle delivery, the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) announced on Monday.
The latest ro-ro carrier to call at Walvis Bay was the Glovis Century which discharged 321 vehicles.
Vessel agents NMT Shipping confirmed that the new vehicles had been loaded in Antwerp and destined for Namibia.
The majority of the vehicles are scheduled to be exported to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Botswana.
According to Immanuel Hanabeb, a member of Namport’s executive committee, the port is attractive based on its convenient location.
“The location of the port allows it to provide an easy and fast transit route between southern Africa, Europe, Asia and the America.”
Namport recorded a significant 39% increase in vehicles handled at Walvis Bay for the 2018/2019 period.
