The future of freight rail may seem uncertain because of technological development but strategising will always demand a strong human element that artificial intelligence can’t match – empathy.
Delivering a talk titled “The CEO’s guide to Digital Strategy” at last week’s Transport Forum in Johannesburg, Microsoft digital strategy adviser Peter Reinecke said there could be no discounting the advances that had been made in the field of computer science. But 4th industrial inventions like the internet of things and artificial intelligence would probably never be possible if it weren’t for the human quality of sentient thinking.
“Without the ability to dream and then design inventions of the future, we will not be able to deliver on improvements that drive our collective progress,” said Reinecke.
