The Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (CBRTA) will officially transfer its law enforcement division to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) tomorrow.
According to a statement from the Department of Transport, the move will enable the entity to extend its function to include the enforcement of the Cross-Border Road Transport Act.
In a ceremony at the Boekenhout Traffic College in Pretoria, transport minister Dipuo Peters will begin the process of implementing the 2015 National Road Safety Summit resolution of creating a single law enforcement authority in South Africa.
This is to ensure that traffic law enforcement officers throughout the country have a single, identical uniform and branding for vehicles as well as the same basic conditions and career pathing.
Peters will be delivering a keynote address under the theme “Together, marching towards single law enforcement in transport”.
