Despite the inevitable rise in energy costs, South African manufacturers can realise their industrialisation ambitions – and save power costs – through the use of an efficient, tailor-made energy management system.
That’s the view of Geordie Blane, managing director of the newly launched energy management company, Overshadow, pointing out that a lack of visibility into energy usage is what prevents most companies from better managing their energy costs.
“When you’re a manufacturer, your power usage – and supply – needs to be predictable and you need to be forewarned if there is an unknown factor pushing your usage up,” he explained. Overshadow provides a variety of energy management solutions through its partnership with several global energy management systems and solutions.
“We don’t have a one-product-fits-all philosophy but rather match our clients with the right solution, or a number of solutions, to meet their needs,” said Blane. The solutions range from real time tracking of electricity usage to identifying where savings are possible, implementing interventions and monitoring bills, color:red'>. and identifying discrepancies before they become unmanageable.
According to Blane, up to a 20% reduction in energy usage is realistic with the right, tailored solution. “And this helps companies significantly reduce their carbon footprint as well, contributing to a more sustainable business,” he said.
