Volkswagen South Africa (VW SA) has a “huge expansion programme” in the Eastern Cape, which will not be affected by the global emissions scandal that broke in the United States last week.
VW SA spokesperson was cited by City Press newspaper as saying that the R4.5-billion investment for the Uitenhage plant to build new products would not be affected by the scandal.
Daily business site Fin24 also reported that Nelson Mandela Bay metro mayor, Danny Jordaan, had been assured by the company that none of the 4 000 VW SA jobs were at stake.
