TRAINING HAS taken top priority for all staff involved in the movement of traffic along the Trans Kalahari Corridor. A German international capacity building group, InWEnt, has undertaken the training of employees of the Namibian Roads Authority, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Namibian Police, customs officials and the City of Windhoek. A series of courses started in October last year and will continue this year.
The objective is to improve transit procedures, customer care, awareness of transportation of dangerous goods by road, and regulation load methods on heavy vehicles.
The first two courses last year focused on practical training for transport inspectors from various centres in the country.
The Department of Customs and Excise enrolled 18 of its officials on a two week course covering communication and customer care in November. Trainees focused on detailed information related to customs transit documentation and procedures and the control functions of the ASYCUDA system currently being implemented by Namibia’s customs authority.
Training sessions for the freight forwarding industry will be held this year.
