As connectivity on the
continent increases,
a lack of communications
infrastructure continues to
impact the freight industry,
according to Antonio Di
Stefano, a commercial
consultant at freight systems
bureau CompuClearing.
“Opportunities are growing
across the continent as Internet
connectivity improves, but more
infrastructure is still required.”
The company has seen a major
improvement in connectivity in
recent years, he said.
“Speedier cross-border
clearances are taking place
thanks to integration of
systems. Integrated
financial and invoicing
solutions are also being
implemented,” he said.
“We currently
have customers
in Swaziland,
Lesotho,
Mozambique,
Malawi and
Namibia using
our airline
and transport
systems –
and we’re
expanding
across the rest
of Africa with
our offering of the
next generation of
logistics execution software,
CargoWise One.”
He said slow Internet
connectivity remained a
challenge when operating
in Africa. “Cost
sensitivity also affects
communication and the
utilisation of the latest
technologies,” said Di
Stefano.
“But this is an
opportunity to grow
our footprint and what
we have to offer into
Africa as we have the
ability to simplify their
processes.”
