IN THE five years since it was formed, Bolton Maritime has had "year-on-year growth", according to m.d. Alan Ainscow.
But it has not been rapid growth, he added, rather a "steady progression".
"And this is the better of the two trends.
"If you expand rapidly you put your resources under strain. But steady, regular growth is manageable," Ainscow told FTW.
Bringing on board the agency for Uni Shipping last year was good for Bolton Maritime, allowing his company to piggy-back on the growth in this line's SA activities in the past year.
"Uni Shipping is now a regular player in the SA market and it intends to expand its business further over the next 12-months."
Bolton has also seen its client base expanding each year, Ainscow added.
"They are much more diversified now. Whereas five-years ago the majority of our business was in granite exports, now we are shifting all sorts of products, including good quantities of containerised traffic to the US."
Ainscow is also confident about the future despite the current recession that is likely to throw a stranglehold on a lot of trade business.
"In terms of a couple of things we are doing I expect growing business in the next 12-months or so.
"This regardless of the fact that it is generally predicted as a poor market overall."
