RIGHT-HAND DRIVE buses to meet international market demands are to be built in Cape Town by German-based Neoplan Stuttgart. The company plans to export in the region of 20% of its scheduled 500 vehicles to be built annually.
Custom-built luxury coaches as well as traditional local service buses are to be built in the production facility now under construction.
With only 10% of vehicle parts being imported from Germany, Neoplan will provide opportunities in employment and a new parts supply facility for local manufacturers, according to Neoplan SA g.m. Heinrich Anderhold.
Bodies for almost all chassis supplied in South Africa, including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and MAN would also be built at the new plant.
We will serve the luxury and semi-luxury coach and city bus markets, and will tender for all business in right-hand drive markets in sub-Saharan Africa and throughout the world, he said.
