THE DEVIL’S in the detail when it comes to cost-saving measures, and in Maersk Line’s latest ships, it’s the paint that makes the difference.
By using a new type of paint on its vessels the shipping line is saving up to 2000 tons of bunkers per round trip, according to Maersk Line SA MD Per Heisselberg.
“The paint we use is a lot more expensive than traditional varieties, but we are confident that the long-term savings will compensate for the additional investment,” he told FTW.
This is standard for all the line’s new vessels which are currently being built.
