THE TECHNICAL hitch that resulted in South African Airways’ (SAA’s) flight bound for Mauritius having to turn back last Saturday has been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority and Boeing, according to an airline spokesman. This may result in a one-time inspection of the Boeing 747-400 fleet, the spokesman said. “At no stage were the 331 passengers on board the Boeing 747-400 in any danger,” says Jan Blake, head of SAA technical and SAA operations. “To the best of our knowledge this is the first-time an incident of this nature has occurred on the worldwide Boeing 747-400 fleet.”
