The Port of Maputo is
not a competitor to South
African ports, but rather
a complementary port,
says Alex Masianoga,
Transnet Freight Rail
(TFR) executive manager,
strategy.
Speaking at a Maputo
Corridor Logistics
Initiative (MCLI) open day
and networking event in
Johannesburg last Friday,
Masianoga said the Port of
Maputo and its links to the
hinterland were an integral
part of the logistical
transportation chain of
southern Africa as a whole.
“It may seem strange
that we are promoting a
different port to our own,
but the Ressano Garcia
line is regarded as a
cost-effective route from
Mpumalanga and certain
Gauteng areas for a range
of commodities.
