Once more, Transnet Port
Terminals (TPT) at the Port
of Durban has just indulged
in what now seems like a
perpetual re-shuffling of its
senior management cards
– all effective from last
Monday (February 16).
Along with that, it has
also made changes to the
management structure at
two of its Durban
terminals.
There
were three
management
reshuffles
in the
container
terminals.
Hector
Danisa,
previously
the
terminal
manager at Durban
container terminal (DCT)
Pier 2, has now assumed
the position of executive
manager – logistics
and international
services in the TPT
commercial and planning
department. The focus
of this is to grow TPT’s
new freight logistics
services and terminal
operations management
opportunities north of
the border. Danisa will
also work on expanding
container freight station,
warehousing and various
terminal management
opportunities within the
African continent.
Taking over his role at
Pier 2 is Joe Madlala who
was previously terminal
manager at Pier 1. He, in
turn, has been replaced
by Tshwaelo Matlhape,
the former chief
operations manager at
Pier 1.
The management
structural change is
in the two breakbulk
multi-purpose terminals
(MPT), which have now
been consolidated under
one terminal manager –
Phumi Mthethwa.
Meanwhile, Fikile
Mngomezulu will
continue to lead the
team at the Durban car
terminal and Boysie
Mthembu, formerly
assistant terminal
manager at Pier 2, is now
terminal manager for the
agri-bulk terminal.
In the short time
between receiving a
memo of these changes
and FTW’s print
deadline, we managed to
talk to a couple of port
users.
The gist of what was
said was that there
was somewhat of a
disappointment about
Danisa’s move out of Pier
2. He had formed a good
working relationship
with his main client
base, FTW was told,
and had adopted a fairly
co-operative stance about
issues brought to his
attention.
On the other hand,
the good thing was that
he had been replaced
by Madlala, who had
also performed pretty
acceptably at Pier 1.
