According to the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) an air waybill is the standard document in international use for the carriage of goods by airfreight. While each airline will have its own print with its own logo, the essential detail on the air waybill remains uniform throughout the airfreight industry.
The International Air Transport Association (Iata) defines an air waybill (AWB) as the contract of carriage between the ‘shipper’ (eg, forwarder) and the ‘carrier’ (airline)”. It is also called the paper AWB.
